Proxy Server Definition
Just what is a proxy server defined as? There are many websites and group discussions about proxy servers, but very rarely do you see anyone talking about what a proxy server is exactly and why would someone even need to use a proxy server in the first place.
A proxy server is a server or computer that is configured so that it passes information from one server to another. To put this another way, instead of connecting directly to your favourite website you would first connect to the proxy server and then tell it to connect to your favourite website for you and retrieve the information you wanted. Regardless of the name or kind of proxy server, they all function in this manner. Proxy servers simply passing information from one place to another.
So why would anyone even need a proxy server? The most common reason people need proxy servers is because they are blocked from a website they want to access. They might be blocked for a number of reasons, but the most common is because they live in a country that does not have permission to access the website. By using a proxy server in the USA, you can then live anywhere in the world and surf the internet using a USA IP.
A proxy server is simply a server that passes data from one place to another. People mainly use proxy servers to change their IP online and gain access to websites that they normally are blocked from. Something so simply is so powerful and sought after by many people.
